The Hyper Arm
PLEASE NOTE: WE CURRENTLY DO NOT MAKE THE ROPE, ANKLE STRAP, CARABINER, OR CLIPS THAT ARE REQUIRED TO USE THE HYPER ARM. PLEASE SEE THIS LINK FOR THE RECOMMENDED ROPE AND CARABINER:
AND THIS LINK FOR THE RECOMMENDED ANKLE STRAP:
The Hyper Arm was designed out of necessity with the following goals in mind:
1) to be adjustable enough to be able to train the whole body
2) to be light enough to be portable (30lbs)
3) to be heavy duty enough to be able to apply high amounts of stimulus in the form of force, velocity, and volume
Happy to say: we hit all 3.
To operate The Hyper Arm, you simply hook it over a barbell in a squat rack (it’s recommended that you weight the barbell with 135-225lbs and that the squat rack be bolted down), loop an impulse rope around the bottom of the device, attach your ankle or wrist strap, and it’s ready for use.
Since the device is adjustable simply by raising or lowering the height of the barbell it’s hooked on, it can be used to train all areas of the body from the lower leg up through the wrists.
In terms of stimulus, the most beneficial aspect of The Hyper Arm is the level of force it allows us to apply to the body. When the weight is swung and you attempt to rapidly “stop” that swinging weight with the impulse rope, all of the musculature involved is forced to rapidly “turn on” to absorb that force. This would be similar to what would happen if you were to drop off a high box. In order for you to “stick” that landing and not crumble to the ground, the musculature in the feet would need to rapidly turn on. The muscles around your knees. Around your hips. Around your spine. Etc. What the hyper allows us to do is apply that type of force, but to specified areas and joints based on the movements/exercise we are doing. And because of the repetitive way in which it swings, we can do that at high volume in relatively short periods of time.
Additionally, we can use The Hyper Arms’ swinging pattern to train our joints in deep ranges of motion. In the demonstration video below, for instance, we can see how we can train hip internal and external rotation. The weight of the hyper arm will swing you into your end range, and you are then asked to fire out of that end range using that musculature. We can take and apply that same stimulus type to all areas of the body and at all joints.
Ultimately, we need tools that we can use to apply stimulus into the body to create the training effect we desire. The Hyper Arm is a unique tool that allows us to apply a unique stimulus that’s difficult to get anywhere else.
