Why Training Is Intense

Tackle the first one - the holding the arm up for 3 min straight

Being able to do so means you can cycle through different energy systems and recover those as you work, staying in position

Not being able to do so means when you hit a certain level of fatigue or stress you can no longer control the position your shoulder is in

So like lets make that practical

If you’re out throwing and you get to 50 pitches, and that puts you past that limit, where is the control going to come from?

Like it’s really amazing how terribly a throwing athlete (or any athlete for that matter) can be trained

“Like yeah man I’m going to ask myself to go through 120 pitches as hard as i can…

But then i can’t simply hold my shoulder in one spot and not move it for 3 min straight - it starts shaking and twitching and doing all kinds of stuff

Cool cool

So basically we’re then just taking “preparation” for your sport as a hope

Instead of actually KNOWING that it is ready to go

And look it’s not like holding 3 min or doing little mini reps like i am above for 3 min is going to be some magical thing that guarantees you never get hurt

But what I’m saying is we can make steps to move closer and closer to that

We don’t have to just stick in what’s always been done

I disagree when someone says “injury can’t be prevented” - particularly when that person just throws their hands up when they say it and be like hahahaha yeah screw it i don’t know it’s all chaos and no one really knows

Like yeah i get it, but even if it’s really hard and there are a LOT of factors - can we still actually try to figure it out????

I dunno just my thoughts

And i think doing things like this gets you closer to it

Cause it allows you to stay in position even as you fatigue and through that fatigue, or as stuff starts to feel weird, you get burning sensations, shaking responses, etc etc

It’s just another level up to where you can as a base stay in position. So then when you go to move, now you have position you can start in and position you can end in, and have control over that

Which is basically the foundation of movement - and we can train ourselves to do it in worst possible case (a ton of fatigue) so at least THAT can hold out for you in performance
