What Took Me From a 4 Minute To a 7 Minute Deep Pushup

What Took Me From a 4 Minute To a 7 Minute Deep Pushup

Not looking to make this namby pamby but it seems that if what you’re doing isn’t difficult enough to cultivate an extreme level of emotion then it’s just not going to do much for you

Meaning - training or rehabbing without feeling anything means you probably can already do it and it’s just not going to have much of an effect

And it seems like the greater level of difficulty you can put yourself in, while being able to still decide to continue to do it, without reacting to it and feeling like that difficulty has beaten you, the more rapid that progress can be

Got some personal examples with this

Back when i was going from a 4 min deep pushup iso hold to a 7 min, the only thing that was apparently getting in the way was my actual decision to simply do it

To experience that level of discomfort, and to not exit it, but to stay in it

Same thing happened when i was rehabbing my back injury awhile ago

It was like i could feel the pain and the sensation

But once i remembered that it was up to me to actually become more than that pain and sensation, the pain and sensation responded to me

Vs me responding to it

And then healed very rapidly

But lets try to make this more useable

If i walk into the gym or the training room and what I’m given does not cause me to have to cultivate something within myself that i have never cultivated before

Then that thing is simply asking me to do what i already know how to do

And so there is no new adaptation that i am asking to be elicited

And i want to get past the whole 3x10 wall slides and rice bucket work cause i think we already agree and know that’s not that beneficial

And look at the actual essence of this

It just seems very simply to be that we have unlimited ability to change

And it’s only limited by our willingness to put ourselves THROUGH the difficulty that elicits the change through adaptation

So like we can look at accumulating an hour of slow lowers, or doing 5000 impulse reps, or 2 hours straight of depth drops

And it seems that what these things do is provide you with something that is so simple, yet so difficult, that there is just nowhere for you to go other than to decide you are going to do it, or you are not

It’s just being real with yourself man

You are not the pain, you are not the sensation, you are not the difficulty

You can be greater than these things. You don’t have to respond to them. You can simply look at them and be okay with them.

And, to connect back to the start, the emotion showing up is the indicator that you are asking yourself to confront pain, sensation, difficulty, that you have not done before

So it means when we get to the other side

Progress has likely been made.
