Train the System AND The Skill

The boxes are 4 feet tall. Second time in my life hitting a landing from that height. Wasn’t perfect, feet came down a bit before the hands, but we rockin with it, thoughts below

Sometimes i think practice of the very very very specific skill is a bit overrated.
Like if we take these pushup depth drops for example. Very specific skill. Haven’t done them in probably a year?
And really consider that guys - this wasn’t something I’ve been practicing. I haven’t done them… in a year (at least)
What i have been doing tho, is training very very hard on getting more and more precise control and autonomy over my system
For example
The 5 min slow lower deep pushup into press up with the 45 lbs added, 500 reps of one joint move without stopping, 225 glute hams in the same session, etc
Very simple moves. Practiced over and over and over, which almost can’t help but increase your ability to control your body, no matter the situation you’re using it in
And to make that a bit more real, we can take the 500 rep shoulder joint move. 500 times, in a row, you’re “communicating” with your shoulder and arm as it goes through the movement. And with each rep, you send information out, and get information back. Send it out, get it back, send it out, get it back, etc - over and over and over. So you start to notice little changes, little nuances, what isn’t quite right, and what could be just a little better
Now we take that increased ability to communicate with it and go into a move that hasn’t been done for over a year (the depth drops)
And we have just a little (or a lot over a long enough period of time) better control over how your shoulder operates and what we “know” - through feel - to be the best position for it to be in to work in and not get fatigued or otherwise have problems (can apply to all areas of system as well)
So, for me, it’s these very very simple moves done over and over and over on a long time scale that eventually grants you more and more ability to do what you want in WHATEVER it is that you want, without needing to practice that specific thing.

Can apply to throwing, sprinting, jumping, etc - those are the specific skills, same as the depth drop

My take, don’t have to agree with it, but that’s what I’ve been experiencing
