The 1-10 Question For Athletes

One way that you can diagnose or look at how prepared you actually are is to ask yourself how prepared do I feel to do what I need to do on a scale from 1-10? So let's say that you're a pitcher and you need to be able to throw for a full season, throwing every fifth day and throw 120-150 pitches every single day.
Ask yourself, on a scale of 1-10, how prepared am I to do that? And then the key is the next question: if not a 10, what is it that's getting in the way? For Example: “Oh, it's my elbow. Oh, it's my shoulder. Oh, I don't feel like I can quite let it go fully.” Whatever it is, that thing that is keeping you from being a 10 is what needs to be addressed in your training and in your preparation.
So continue to train and prepare everything, but that thing that's getting in the way of you being at a 10, that's where the focus needs to be.
