Should You Just Maintain?

We don't ever look at, are you strong enough? Are you prepared enough? Are you fast enough? Can you hold long enough? Do you have enough capacity? 

We don't look at it in terms of “enough” because we understand that there are no flat lines. You're either getting better or you're getting worse, or you're going up and down and up and down and up and down, right? There is nothing that stays stagnant. So when it comes to, do you have enough strength? Are you prepared enough? Are you healthy enough? Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. 

As soon as you get to the point where you think, I have enough of this thing and you stop putting attention and energy into it, that thing is going to fall off.

  And this is particularly applicable to preparation, right? As soon as you think you're prepared enough, you are going to fall off and then your sport or your life is going to require you to kick back up through injury, through sensation, through a lack of performance, whatever it is. 

So the best thing to do is to stay ahead of that and no matter how well you perform, no matter how prepared you actually feel to continue to put effort, energy, and time into doing that, because then you can stay ahead of your sport, your life, or anything else you’re required to do.
