Safe Doesn't Change You As An Athlete

Safe Doesn't Change You As An Athlete

July 30, 2025

Most training programs are not designed to actually push the envelope and to get you to a new level of performance. They're designed so that you don't get hurt and they're designed so that the person writing them doesn't get in trouble. Like you've probably seen this if you're in a college or if you're in a pro setting where like the training in and of itself has to be fairly safe.

It has to be fairly conservative or fairly restricted. because the person that's in charge of that would get in trouble if they tried to push you to actually get you to a new level, right? And I know that this is a little backwards, from how most in strength and conditioning feel.

But the way that I look at it is we want to actually use the training to create a new level for you. It's not just a workout. It's not just a session that you're going to do to help support your sport. It's actually preparing you to a greater level for that so that your actual level of performance can get higher.

So take that into consideration when you're doing the training that you're doing. It's like, is this literally pushing me to a level of challenge, difficulty, survival, where I actually have to change and adapt from this to get better?

Or is it more of a conservative approach to the stimulus that I'm getting? And it's just like something for me to go do to kind of help me feel okay and, like, keep performing at the level that I'm at. And it's up to you, like, at what level you want to get to. But what I'm saying is the level of stimulus that we apply can be much greater than most training programs are putting on the individual.
