Rehabilitate Your Willingness To Try


So the first clip was my first attempt at a 5 min slow lower deep pushup today

Got like 3:30 or so. And as you can see, pressed back up out of it really with no problem. Just wasn’t willing to be in it. Wasn’t willing to experience it

Then i had a 2nd attempt in which i also stopped before 5. Got to like 3 min

I mean i finished out 5 min on each, but it took 2 attempts. And wasn’t really because i couldn’t do it (it was cause i wasn’t willing to experience it)

Then after that i hit 3 in a row, like 3 5 minuter’s in a row

Brought up some thoughts (the thing i was doing today was 60 min running clock, cycling through 5 min slow lower deep pushup, and a pec and delt impulse for 50 reps, not shown)

The thoughts were:

When you allow yourself to be forced to quit by someone or something else… you end up not liking yourself. And when you do not like yourself you feel like you need to get back your own sense of determinism. So you will quit, on your own, just to show yourself you can

Processing through these emotions are a major part of any training or rehab.

Like let’s say you tore your elbow. That tear made you quit. You did not want to. Something or someone else made you quit. So you lost your ability to have command over that thing

Well, you want command. So now you have to show yourself that you can quit. That you have control over starting or quitting

So you do that. You quit. Make up some reason, some purpose for it. But you quit, really just to show yourself you can.

Be like see, i can do that. 

Cool.

Not lets go to the upswing. I showed myself i could quit twice in a row. Once i had that, then I was like well i don’t want to. And so i kept going

And that’s the power of this. It’s why training and especially rehab when you’ve been hit over and over and over, is about so much more than the physical

It’s about rehabbing you man - every part of yourself. Getting out all the you don’t like. That feels bleh, that feels dirty, that feels not you

Allowing yourself to take command over those things by choosing to do those things

And then remembering you actually do want to try…

And then actually doing so

Cannot be rushed, cannot be faked
