Pain Isn’t the Enemy

When’s the last time you just SAT with your pain?
Not ran away from it. Not tried to fix it. Not tried to explain it.
But just SAT there with it?
Cause I’d bet half your issue is you’re so intent on getting away from it, you won’t even acknowledge it’s there in the first place. Pretty hard to address when you can’t even be quiet enough to see it…
It’s like a freaking auto response dude
My elbow hur….
HOW CAN I FIX IT?!?!?!
Holy hell man calm down for a sec
It’s pain - not a apocalypse
Like have you ever considered, that it’s actually okay to sometimes have some pain?
That you don’t have to just FREAK THE HELL OUT and turn into Ken when Barbie tries to leave him (is that a thing???)
That, i don’t know, maybe you could actually not have every ounce of you wrapped up in feeling absolutely perfect absolutely all the time?
And this isn’t a joke
This isn’t to be taken as a metaphor
I’m straight talking serious here
It’s okay if your elbow hurts man. It’s okay if your knee hurts. It’s fine if it’s not A-okay all the time
Yeah but…
Yeah but…
Yeah but…
I know my butt is big but stop saying but dawg - we not rolling that way
Just leave it at that for now
It’s okay
Let yourself take a breath WITH the pain
It is not eating up your joint as we speak in the 3 sec since it started hurting
It’ll be okay if you take 10 breaths and don’t do anything at all about it
Promise
(Unless your bone is sticking out or something, then you might want a bit more urgency… i guess.)
And i know you’re still looking for more
Where it’s like okay cool
BUT WHAT DO I DO ABOUT IT
You be with it. That’s all.
This does not apply to everybody
It applies to the person that cannot stand being in pain
That freaks out over 1/10 sensation
That always has some little tweak that HAS to be addressed
This is for that person
Cause, guess what dawg, you’re creating your own pain
And the first step
Is to simply be okay with having it
So you don’t have to run away with it
And you can actually look clearly at it
That’s it
(Cannot wait for this to be taken out of context and get reworded into me telling “everybody” that they should chase pain and be in pain and always WANT pain. It’s gonna be so much fun)
