Joint Moves and Skill Acquisition

Joint Moves and Skill Acquisition

Coordination and awareness of where joints and your body is in space is not built by thinking about it

It’s not built by reading about it

It’s built by actually doing it

Reps on reps on reps on reps on reps

And usually sport is the context we talk about wanting that

But it’s not the most fundamental layer we can build it at. And not the simplest either

Also - tends to be more chaos and less control and a higher probability of things going wrong in sport

Like if we take the hip move above, and we do 300 of em, there is very very very little chance anything is going to go wrong other than its going to feel like you want to stop, hip is going to want to fall off, and you might get pissed cause you hit the bench a couple times with your foot

But if we want to talk about coordination and awareness of body, that’s really where we build it

And this has been a little revelation for me that is different from the way i trained when I actually played sport

Cause when i played sport i put almost all attention in terms of building coordination on the sport itself

And all training was basically just going to the gym to lift

But what I’ve realized is doing these very very simple but extremely difficult moves over and over really just helps to layer in connection to those areas

So like if you want to be able to have more awareness in your sport, this is practically how to start building that without needing to worry about volume issues. Move something that is very very simple, and do that over and over and over

And you’ll start to wire in exactly how you wanna move

And it’s not to negate sport practice at all. Point is simply to make BOTH physical prep AND sport as effective as possible
